Private School Planner

Welcome to the first edition of Crain's Private School Planner. In this special advertising supplement, we examine the local non-public school landscape and offer suggestions for navigating the world of charter, magnet, select and private school choices in the Chicago area.

Our aim in creating this annual supplement is to provide you with a reference tool that will arm and educate your family as you assess and evaluate private school choices. Throughout the supplement you will find profiles of local-area private schools that include their mission statements, unique study options and programs, faculty and financial aid information, student teacher ratios, tuition and much more.

In addition, local reporter Jane Adler adds clarity with several upfront stories. In her lead story, "Independent Schools Boost Financial Aid" she looks at the effect the economy has had on private schools, and explores the role fund-raising plays at certain schools.

In "Private Schools Make the Grade", Jane reviews the "value proposition", that many schools say makes them unique and sets them apart. Closing out the upfront features, Jane addresses how some independent schools are on the cutting edge of classroom technology and takes a look inside a few area boarding schools.

We hope that you and your family find Crain's Private School Planner, A Guide to Chicago-Area Private Schools a valuable reference tool
