Welcome to the 2nd annual Giving Guide, a special advertising supplement to Crain’s Chicago Business. For 2012 we continue our journey to explore the fundamental relationships between Chicago-area nonprofits and the companies that help to support them.
We created this Giving Guide to be used as a tool. It provides our readers with all the pertinent information they need to become more actively involved within Chicago’s nonprofit community—either individually or on behalf of their company. The guide profiles numerous area nonprofits and includes the organization’s mission statement, goals, events and volunteering opportunities, annual revenues, managing executives and board of directors, and more.
Local writer Jane Adler shares ways in which Chicago’s corporate community continues to reach further and further to give back to Chicago’s nonprofit community.
In Jane’s lead story, “Companies Leverage Giving with Social Media” she shares ways in which companies large and small are using social media to help deliver even stronger “giving” results. As well, how area nonprofits are able to grow and stretch their giving message and results further than ever before.
In “Employee Volunteers: A Workforce for Good”, Jane looks at how some area companies and their employees are giving back through company sponsored volunteer programs. It’s no longer just about giving financial equity, but sweat equity too. She also shares some interesting findings from a study that correlates workplace volunteer programs to high corporate culture ratings.
Jane also shares unique ways in which some firms are giving back to the nonprofit community through pro bono work and looks at young entrepreneurs who are on the forefront of local philanthropy.
We hope that your journey though the Giving Guide will help to inspire you to become more actively involved. A little bit of effort from each of us, goes a long way for those who are in need.
