3rd death linked to Legionnaires' disease
(AP) — A third death has been linked to confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease among guests at the JW Marriott Chicago hotel.
The Chicago Department of Public Health previously said two people had died. The department confirmed the third death Friday and said it has received reports of 10 confirmed cases of the disease, up from eight confirmed cases. Public health officials say a fountain in the first-floor lobby of the hotel appears to be the outbreak's main source.
Public health officials say the fountain has been removed and likely secondary sources have been disabled or are inaccessible to the public. Guests who became ill stayed at the hotel from July 16 through Aug. 15.
Symptoms include headache, high fever, chills, cough, chest pain and shortness of breath.
