PGA Tour Superstore plans to open in Downers Grove

(Crain's) — PGA Tour Superstore's second Chicago-area location is to be in west suburban Downers Grove.

The store will occupy 45,000 square feet in the former Rossi Furniture store at Highland Avenue and Butterfield Road, the retail chain said in a statement Wednesday.

The two Chicago-area locations will make a total of 14 stores for the chain, a holding of Home Depot Inc. co-founder Arthur Blank.

PGA Tour Superstore said two weeks ago that its first Chicago-area location would be a 60,000-square-foot store at 1321 E. Golf Road in Schaumburg, near Woodfield Mall.

The Downers Grove store, 1015 Butterfield Road, is slated to open in early summer, after the Schaumburg location, which is scheduled to open in late spring. The two suburban stores are to be the first Midwest sites for the chain.

"We are particularly excited about expanding to Chicago, which is one of the premier areas in America for golf enthusiasts," PGA Tour Superstore President and CEO Dick Sullivan said in the statement.

The chain, which sells golf and tennis equipment and clothing, is run by Roswell, Ga.-based Golf & Tennis Pro Shop Inc., a unit of AMB Group LLC.
